Christian Education

St John’s is dedicated to developing excellence in Christian education and spiritual formation by providing a wide variety of opportunities to develop one’s own faith through programs that explore both the traditional and more progressive models of Christian theology. The parish runs a number of bible studies throughout the year, but our two main programs in Christian education are ‘Alpha’ and ‘Living the Questions.’

‘Alpha’ runs once a year at St John’s and is a 10 week introduction to the Christian faith. The Alpha course is now widely used around the world and has helped to give particpants a very helpful introduction to the basics of the Christian faith. The format of each 2 1/2 hour session includes a shared meal, video presentation, discussion, prayer, and bible study. The key note speaker for the Alpha course is Nicky Gumbel. ‘Living the Questions’ runs once a year at St John’s and is a 12 week program in the Christian faith that is a progressive alternative to studies that attempt to give participants all the answers to the many complex questions of life and faith. ‘Living the Questions’ instead, strives to create an environment where participants can learn to live out these questions with authenticity, integrity, and devotion to God. The format of each 2 1/2 hour session includes a shared meal, dvd presentation, discussion, prayer, and bible study. Presenters include; Emilie Townes, Marcus Borg, John Shelby Spong.
